How it Works

Charm PasLite works by using a reagents which will emit light in a chemical reaction when it comes into contact with alkaline phosphatase.

Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme that is in all raw milk. When complete pasteurisation occurs, the enzyme will become inactive, below conventional detectable levels.

The heat stability of alkaline phosphatase is greater than that of pathogens that can exist in milk, so it serves as an indicator of how safe the product is.

Pathogens that can exist in raw milk include:

  • Listeria

  • Salmonella

  • Brucella

  • Yersinia

  • E Coli

  • Strep Pyogenes

  • S Aureus

  • Campylobacter.

The amount of chemiluminescence the reagent emits is in direct proportion to the amount of the alkaline phosphatase enzyme present in the sample.

Charm analysers will detect these light emissions and convert light readings to enzyme units.
